Many health insurance companies view hearing loss as a cosmetic condition, therefore denying many needed hearing related services. These services include providing children with appropriate hearing aids or cochlear implants, speech therapies, hearing tests, ENT and Audiology appointments and so forth.
For families and children with hearing loss, these services may be necessary - not cosmetic.
We want to help bridge the gap between the hearing and deaf communities, bring awareness to local communities and offer support for families who may need it along the way.
The services and support that Team Kenna intends to offer are financial assistance to families and children, local community involvement, awareness and inclusiveness, American Sign Language support and education and scholarship opportunity for local high school seniors who peruse a collage degree in an area related to hearing loss/services.
At 8 weeks old, Kenna was diagnosed with congenital moderate to moderately severe Bilateral Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SNHL). This would require Kenna to wear hearing aids. Team Kenna wants to ensure that no family ever struggles to provide hearing related services to their child with hearing loss. We encourage high school seniors to explore and peruse careers related to hearing loss by providing college scholarship opportunities in Ohio.
